Day 2, the heat has picked up, 38 degrees was on the lower end of the spectrum. So, the day was undeniably a tad arduous but we got through it.

K11: We had to do some serious metro navigation. We stopped by K11, a brand new shopping complex similar to Réel, with all the expensive shops and some on the more affordable side. There’s also a new modern art gallery downstairs which completely fell into that artistic category of “I don’t get how people call this art because I’m not trying to be ignorant in thinking that the tent that’s been constructed in the middle of the room or the picture of the moon printed on the wall are just that, inanimate objects, but that looks like the case.” There was one cool installation, a kaleidoscope projected onto the wall of a dark room, but overall didn’t really get it.

Baker & Spice: We stopped by this café within the K11 complex for lunch, fresh vegetable soup, a pumpkin sandwich on just-baked bread and an amazing carrot cake cupcake with cream cheese icing and zucchini.

Next stop was Xintiandi where we checked out the shopping centre at the station, looking for the stores that stocked our company’s jewellery. As a result of the heat, we were too exhausted to venture too much further before our next stop but never fear, I’ve heard only great things about the area so a friend and I are going to do a later afternoon shop and dinner there this week when the heats calms down a little and we can really appreciate it.

Final stop before home time and a good resting of our blistered feet was Tianzifang. We navigated the little side alleys and boutiques and stumbled upon this tiny whole-in-the-wall café with the quirkiest, vintage décor we’d ever seen, so we had to stop by even just for a coke so we could check it out. It smelt like its’ hundred years of history, all the chairs were mismatched, the lace table cloths were stained with time and our water was served in chipped aluminium mugs. The kitsch factor was off the scale.

Until tomorrow.
