I'm absolutely starting to get into the swing of things now. We've worked out a couple of variations of the perfect breakfast on the go so I can get up 10 minutes before we need to leave and get that little extra sleep: we love grabbing an almond pastry or croissant from Hao Mai De and an iced-coffee from the cafe in the hotel lobby or a freshly squeezed orange juice from the juice-bar at work that tastes like heaven! Then, onto the bus, which to others apparently sounds pretty intimidating but we've mastered the art and the door to door drop off is incredible! Just gotta make sure to follow the numbers. Oh, and have I told you we've been given a 10-5pm work day with casual dress? Win!
Work has consisted of a lot of market research: we're looking at brands with similar aesthetics, who create their jewellery pieces with similar organic/natural materials and analysing their similarities with our brand and opportunities for expansion. It's actually really interesting seeing behind the scenes of a newer, less established business that's still carefully deciphering the confusions of branding, individuality and identity!
KTV: Ooh, and what we did get up to on Wednesday night? A super silly, ridiculous night of China's famous pastime: Karaoke (KTV)! A good 60+ interns belting out Katy Perry, rapping a bit of Nicki Minaj or Kanye, there's nothing better to break the ice and the language barrier. After everyone got drinking, everything just ramped up a notch until the whole group was dancing in this massive, high tech karaoke studio with its own bar and couches - room to fit that many of us....pretty impressive! Definitely something you can only do in China, so absolutely recommended for a silly night!
Fourth of July pub crawl post to come next...the stories I have to tell you!
Love Jess
