Opening Ceremony Romper. Saltwalter Sandals.
Defeated by the intense
pace of Manhattan it was time for some R&R, and what better place
than the Hamptons is there to recuperate! So off I went accompanied by my New
York partner in crime Ella, on the jitney to upstate New York for
the weekend.
Arriving into the quaint
town of Sag Harbor, a village approximately five miles west of East
Hampton, we immediately changed gears into vacation mode. The slow pace
of the people walking down the street was enough to know we were no longer
in the big apple.
Finding a cute place for
lunch wasn't hard in this town as we finally settled on a cafe named 'The
Cuddy’ located next to the municipal building. This little restaurant
boasted all the American classics, including a BLT, ceaser salad and the humble
grilled cheese. It was the grilled cheese that caught my eye as this
particular sandwich had a twist on the traditional cheese and bread combo. The
spiced apple relish and combination of cheddar and goats cheese with arugula
made the seemingly simple dish as exotic as they come!
After lunch we checked
into our accommodation, a little bungalow next to the main
highway. The location whilst central was not the easiest place for those
traveling without a car. Feeling adventurous, Ella and I decided to take bikes
as our mode of transport with the first stop East Hampton. East
Hampton was the place to find the rich and famous or so we had been told, so
naturally it had to be our first stop.
Dodging SUV’s and trucks
the size of houses, it was a terrifying ride across to the East. Yet somehow we
made it and the destination was spectacular. Main Beach East Hampton is the
place to be in New York during the summer. The people and landscape
filling the area instantly inspire you to dress in monochrome white, or
pastels! (I opted for a mint green ensemble). The beach stretched for
miles along the Long Island Coast with families from New York City and the
neighboring boroughs dotting the shoreline.
The main street shops
included Ralph Lauren, Tiffany and Co and Gucci to name a few, making this
unlike any beach town I had ever been before. In short, this was a miniature Monte
Carlo on the east coast of America.
After lounging on the
beach for two days going back to the city seemed like a distant thought, but
being only an hour outside town we knew the beach life was never too far away!
