Fashion house dress with Stuart Weitzman Biker Boots (excuse the boots, my feet were dead by the end of the day so I opted for a more comfortable shoe! )
“Please arrive at 7am tomorrow morning for
the Press Day”. Unsure as to what a
Press Day actually entailed, I was excited nonetheless for the chance to
possibly meet the biggest fashion editors in New York City (and if that group
were to include Anna Wintour, I think I might die! Fingers crossed!).
Before arriving at the PR Company where the
day was to unfold, another intern and myself (‘the chosen ones’) were both instructed
to get dressed in outfits entirely from the fashion house’s collection. I had been dying to wear some the designs so
what better excuse than for work!
After being fitted out head to toe we were
ready to go and start the day. In the elevator we met the model for the day who
was a sweet girl from Holland. As soon as I entered the office space I was
directed to go and buy fresh peonies from Union Square…not quite what I
expected, but off I went to the flower market.
When I returned it was go, go, go, until
the early evening. I was in charge of dressing and leading the model around the
room. Changing in an actual broom closet
did prove challenging at times, especially when we were fitting ball gowns and
heels six inches high.
Coming to review the clothes were editors from
Vogue (unfortunately Anna didn’t make it L), Elle, InStyle, W and Style.com to name a few. These editors were themselves dressed
impeccably, with each carrying an IT bag as well.
“I really can’t stay for long I have a
whole list of designers to review today” followed by a list of the biggest
fashion houses, was the usual statement preached by the editors upon entering.
It was amazing listening to my boss explain
the concept for the collection and the way it influenced the design elements
and features she employed. Reading the subsequent
articles based on the resort collection after having heard the comments first
hand was really special!
Such an exciting day and very professional I
can’t wait to experience more ‘official’ fashion industry events!
