What can I say...such a big
day!! 4th of July was actually crazy!! After a day at work...and not much to
tell I'm afraid, (more of the same; industry analysis...and you don't really
want to hear about that!) we trekked home to get ready for what was sure to be
a big night!
Pub Crawl Shanghai: A lot of indecision, a pizza and a pina colada later
and we were headed to The Camel
to partake in some 4th of July ‘Murica’ festivities on a Pub Crawl
Shanghai event. They’re held by this company (http://www.pubcrawlshanghai.com) three times a week, taking locals and visitors alike
to different venues around shanghai on massive party buses. While initially
somewhat of a skeptic, the night quickly blossomed into the best I’ve spent in
Shanghai so far!
I’m not sure if it was the
power of the US spirit or the actual spirits but everyone was super friendly,
majority being travellers and interns just like me (we had full 3 buses taking
the trip, that’s a good 200 people, some staying in the same hotel funnily
enough – small world!) and we all spent the night being silly together, making
stop offs at The Boxing Cat and Geisha as well as one other bar heavy
on the Americana memorabilia that saw a few, having had too much to drink,
start jelly wrestling...as in, no joke, semi-naked people wrestling in a
jelly-filled kiddie pool! I thought that was saved for bad American frat movies
but the facts don’t lie! It was a great way to meet new people and another
highly recommended night out!
*A tip would be to book
your spot: you don’t need to but a visit to the website means your seat (and
seats for as many friends as want to come along) is saved and you get a
discount on entry. No biggie if you don’t turn up but it definitely takes away
some of the hassle and saves you a bit of yuan! Funniest most inappropriate
part of the night was finding a small child sleeping across the back row of the
bus between trips who, after being shaken awake by a few drunken foreigners,
had a bit of a dance with everyone in the back of the bus. We must have been
terrifying!!
I’ll keep the stories
coming!
Love Jess
