So now that you've read up on the wonders of the Fred Hates Fashion Show, I feel it's only right to go back in time a little to when I first got involved with the team, in collaboration with Damien Yip for Authority Clothing, to create one of their unique fashion films for the runway event.
Such a creative and unique idea from the masterminds behind Fred Hates Fashion, Hinny Tran and Dani Boudville, to create short fashion films to compliment the runway looks and help express the designers' visions for their collections.
For Authority Clothing, this meant expressing their urban, edgy, anti-establishment aesthetic and a cool, punk-rock influence in an evocative 2 minute film. Authority Clothing creator Christopher Skyner has been inspired by the raw creativity of street art from around the globe, incorporating one-of-a-kind artworks into his t-shirt designs. The tees run limited addition so only a finite number of each design will be produced and all artists get a cut of the profits: the ultimate in fashion and art collaboration! It's all about immortalising street art and what better way than to put in on clothing?! Genius!
Creating the fashion film (simultaneously shooting some campaign images for the brand) was a lot of fun (and a bit of hard work given it was freezing and pouring rain for part of the shoot)! The team were all incredibly enthusiastic and made for a great day! Hair and make-up was some of the quickest and best I've encountered; a smokey eye in neutral browns complimented with a nude lip and 'effortless' waves were achieved in all of 20 minutes all thanks to the talents of make-up artist Tess McFadden. With sponsors like Converse and Neuw Jeans helping complete our street-wear looks, we ventured into the city to start filming bang on schedule. Creating edgy images in alley ways and along train-tracks, there was a lot of laughter and mucking around in between takes, evoking the super laid-back atmosphere expressed by Authority clothing.
Here's the video we created:
And some of the campaign images we produced on the day! Stoked to have been involved and can't wait to see what's next from these guys!
